END OF SUPPORT for XIAO
Hardware & Pin Constraints: The Seeed Studio XIAO platform has limited GPIO pins and lack of native dual RJ45 / onboard transceiver support, whereas the Waveshare ESP32-S3 board provides dedicated RS485 and CAN transceivers with sufficient I/O and direct expansion capabilities.
Bus Communication Reliability: The Waveshare board offers integrated physical-layer transceiver hardware for robust RS485 and CAN bus stability, avoiding the off-board wiring, signal degradation, and pin multiplexing limitations of the XIAO.
Standardization & Scalability: Consolidating development onto the Waveshare ESP32-S3 simplifies firmware maintenance, reduces hardware compatibility issues across beta testers, and better accommodates dual RJ45 networking options.
Going forward firmware updates may work on the XIAO but are not guarenteed. Since the I/O pin map is different on the XIAO any changes effecting the rs485 interface will not work on the XIAO. Uset interface changes will likely work as they are just html browser based.
